A 60-year-old woman has been sentenced to an effective ten years imprisonment in the East London Magistrate's court on two counts of dealing in Mandrax.
Captain Anelisa Feni of the Hawks reports that Nokwaliwa Jonga was sentenced on Thursday to 15-years imprisonment of which five years were suspended.
The Hawks had set up an undercover operation earlier this year after receiving information that Jonga was selling Mandrax tablets in Mooiplaas.
On two separate occasions, namely the 22nd of February and the 28th of February, she sold 10 Mandrax tablets each to an undercover police agent.
The 10 Mandrax tablets were valued at R500.
Captain Feni says that Jonga was arrested during the first week of March and on the 26th of March was found guilty by the East London Magistrate's court on two counts of Dealing in Mandrax.
Jonga was effectively sentenced to 6 months in prison for every tablet she sold.
