EC woman accused of impersonating a lawyer makes new bail application

The Eastern Cape woman, accused of fraud for impersonating a lawyer, has brought a bail application based on new facts in the Port Elizabeth Commercial Crimes Court.

The State alleges that between 2009 and 2013, Brenda Wardle, was paid over half a million rand to assist a convicted murderer, who was requesting an early release on parole.

56-year-old Wardle was arrested in East London in June on a warrant of arrest, after evading court for more than a year.

This is Wardle's second bid for bail after her first application was refused by Commercial Crimes Court Magistrate, Lionel Lindoor in July.

It also emerged that during her previous court appearances that she had two other warrants of arrest for evading trial on similar cases, which was one of the grounds for the State opposing bail.

According to Wardle, she did not have all the necessary supporting documents, including affidavits from witnesses, during her first bail application.

Reading her supplementary affidavit for bail, based on new facts into the record, Wardle told the court that she prayed that bail was granted, as she had a world of opportunities awaiting her, and her incarceration would reverse all her gains.

The case was postponed until next week.
