A 46-year-old Eastern Cape woman and her young lover, have been jailed for life for the murder of her 59-year-old husband, Gcobani Nyokana.
The National Prosecuting Authority says Vuyelwa Bhalawese, and 21-year-old, Siyanda Majola, were jailed in the Maluti Regional Court in Matatiele on Thursday.
NPA spokesperson, Luxolo Tyali, said the motive for the murder was for Bhalawese to get access to her husband's pension money as he would have retired at the age of 60.
He said Nyokana worked in Gauteng and would send money home so that his wife could buy sheep.
"When he returned home, he found that the sheep had not been bought and started questioning his wife. It is then that Bhalawese and her boyfriend conspired to kill him," Tyali said.
He was attacked with a blunt object on the night of 13 June last year, and he died on the scene.
He said Bhalawese's 17-year-old nephew overheard the plan and testified for the state while Majola's brother, who was arrested with him, turned state's witness.
Tyali said the court accepted the State's submission in the final argument that there were no compelling circumstances to deviate from the prescribed minimum sentence of life for premeditated murder.
