A Kirkwood traffic officer and two administration clerks have been arrested on charges of fraud and corruption.
Provincial police spokesperson, Brigadier Tembinkos Kinana, said that the arrest were made in Uitenhage on Tuesday in a joint operation with the National Department of Transport and members of SAPS Crime Intelligence.
He said three, aged 32 and 46, had allegedly “been involved in fraudulent issuing of learners' and drivers' licences to applicants.”
“The period within which the alleged fraudulent activities had been taking place has not yet been determined. An audit will be conducted to establish the depths of these activities,” Brigadier Kinana said.
He said cases that include fraud, forgery and corruption, have been registered for further investigation.
“More arrests may not be ruled out,” Kinana added.
