An off-duty traffic officer was gunned down by two suspects outside his home in Burgersdorp in north Eastern Cape.
Police spokesperson, Warrant Office Moitheri Bojabotsheha, said Boy Nxilolo was shot on Monday evenning at around about 19:30pm.
He said the 50-year-old officer was a Superintendent in Chief at the Burgersdorp traffic department.
Bojobotsheha said an investigating task team from Mthatha has been despatched to the area due to the case being considered high profile.
The motive behind the shooting is still unknown at this stage and no arrests have been made.
Meanwhile, the DA Joe District Municipality PR Councillor and Constituency chairperson, Marina van Zyl, has urged SAPS of Burgersdorp to investigate the matter speedily and ensure that the murderer is arrested.
Van Zyl said that the Nxilolo, who had been a traffic officer for more than 10 years, would be remembered for his friendliness and willingness to assist wherever he could.
