Amathole District Municipality in the Eastern Cape says that the current water supply to the town of Adelaide is likely to last for just a week.
In a statement on Wednesday, ADM said that the Adelaide dam level is at two percent and water shortages are on the horizon.
The District Municipality says while a borehole will continue to provide water to the town this will not be sufficient supply to meet the total demand.
ADM says it will use water from the Fish River to augment supply to Adelaide as the Koonap River which supplies the Adelaide Dam is dry due to the drought.
The District Municipality has urged communities to use sparingly due to the limited supply.
