EC third in line for government funding

The Eastern Cape has received the third largest allocation for province from the national government.

Finance Minister, Nhlanhla Nene, said the Eastern Cape’s equitable share is R54.3bn.

Kwazulu Natal receives the highest equitable share at R82.2 billion for 2015/16, followed by Gauteng with R73.4bn.

The provinces with the lowest budgets were the Free State with R21.7bn and the Northern Cape with R10.1bn.

Conditional grants to province total R274bn.

The budget review says that the growth in the equitable share to provinces is dependent on population growth and demand for services.
