EC teens get 15 years for stealing milk and sweets

Two Eastern Cape men who stole sweets and milk worth R380 during a spaza shop robbery last year have been jailed for 15 years each.

Police spokesperson, Captain Stefaanie Smith, says Thembikhaya Faniso and Firiri Mgezo, both 19, were sentenced Wednesday in the Cradock Regional Court.

They were convicted of robbing a spaza shop owner in Qhina Street in Lingelihle of milk and sweets on 24 July 2015.

The two were arrested about a week later and have been in custody ever since as police had opposed their bail applications.

Cradock cluster commander, Brigadier Madoda Zamkana, commended police investigator, Constable Siyabonga Ntsimango, for his diligence and dedicated investigative work.

Brigadier Zamkana also welcomed the sentences handed down by the court and said that he hoped that this would serve as a warning to all criminals that the SAPS was serious about the fight against crime.
