An 18-year-old Dutywa matric learner has been shot dead by his uncle in what is believed to be a tragic accident.
Police said the incident happened in the early hours of Sunday morning when the teenager knocked on the door of his uncle's house around 1.30 am.
Police spokesperson, Captain Jackson Manatha, says the 33-year-old man opened the door and fired a short from his licensed fire-arm, hitting the youth in the chest.
He says when the boy's uncle switched on the light he realised that he had shot his nephew and rushed him to a local clinic, but the youth was declared dead on arrival.
Manatha says the uncle handed himself over to police and will appear in court on Monday on a charge of murder.
