A 16-year-old Eastern Cape youth accused of murder, rape, and robbery, has abandoned his bid for bail.
The National Prosecuting Authority said the teenager appeared in the Nerina One Stop Child and Youth Care Centre in Gqeberha on Thursday.
Spokesperson, Luxolo Tyali, said he faces one count of murder for allegedly killing a man on the 25th of January. He said an accomplice in this matter remains at large.
He said the youth also faces two counts of rape allegedly committed in Kwanobuhle in Kariega on Sunday night.
He said on Wednesday, the KwaNobuhle Magistrates’ Court had to be closed and vacated due to protest action, resulting from misinformation that the youth had been released to the custody of his parents.
“The correct information is that the matter had not yet been enrolled, as there were outstanding investigations to be done as per the prosecutor’s instructions,” Tyali said.
“It is alleged that the teenager, with an accomplice who is still at large, attacked and killed a man in his house in the Dubai area, in KwaNobuhle in January 2023.
The youth was positively identified as one of the alleged perpetrators.
Tyali said on Sunday, two men allegedly stormed into a house in KwaNobuhle and raped two minor women, stealing two cell phones, R2000 in cash, and alcohol.
“The youth was also identified as a suspect and the case has been remanded to 20 February 2023, for further investigations,” he added.
