Steve Hofmeyr: Facebook
A date has been set in July for the High Court in Gqeberha to hear the legal matter between controversial Afrikaans singer, Steve Hofmeyr, and the South African Human Rights Commission.
The Commission has dragged Hofmeyr to court over his remarks on social media that Disney's plan to have more inclusive characters, is to groom children to have sex with animals.
Hofmeyr also said that the LGBTQIA+ community represents bestiality.
The Human Rights Commission has deemed these comments as hate speech and harassment in terms of the Equality Act.
The Commission's Dr Eileen Carter says discussions took place in Chambers on Thursday.
"Now the respondents have conceded on the points in elimina and the matter will continue on the merits," she said.
Meanwhile, Hofmeyr's legal counsel and the SAHRC had lengthy talks outside court last year in attempts to reach a settlement.
These talks broke down and it was decided that the singer's trial would be heard in the Metro.
Dr. Carter told Algoa FM News previously that although the Commission wants R500 000 from Hofmeyr and wants him to undergo community service, it is in the hands of the court to decide on an appropriate order.
