Three suspects appeared in the Addo Magistrate’s court on Tuesday in connection with the falsifying of work and study permits.
Police spokesperson, Captain Gerda Swart, said they were part of a group of five people arrested in Addo and Kirkwood last week.
She said four cases of fraud and falsifying documents were opened by the SAPS Cyber Crime Unit.
“The operation was conducted during the evening of Thursday, 13 April 2017, and five suspects were apprehended at their residential homes in the Bontrug Moses Mabida area in Kirkwood and Valencia in the Addo area and all the equipment used to allegedly falsify these documents, were seized,” Swart said.
She said the three suspects in the Addo case appeared in court on Tuesday “and the cases were provisionally withdrawn” pending the finalization of a report from the Cyber Crime Unit.
Captain Swart said that “Valentine Kasiyumhuru (23), Sukolohle Tihtihtha (29) and Shegiru Enu (32) were released and the cases will be placed on the court roll again after the reports are received from the SAPS Cyber Crime Unit.”
She said the acting Uitenhage Cluster Commander, Brigadier Ronald Koll commended the team for their efforts and emphasised that the South African Police Service will remain focused and committed, although the cases were provisionally withdrawn.
“Detectives together with members from specialized units will investigate these cases to ensure that the culprits will face the full might of the law.”
