Eastern Cape Safety MEC, Helen Sauls August, says she's very concerned about violent crimes in the Eastern Cape.
Algoafm news reported earlier on Thursday about the arrest of a man for allegedly mutilating his nephew and the shooting of a Uitenhage man during a failed hijacking among several crimes reported by police this week.
In a statement, Sauls-August, says she's instructed her officials to develop community programmes to mitigate these crimes.
She also called for closer cooperation between the police, communities as well as NGO's and church and traditional leaders in the fight against crime.
Sauls-August says fighting crime is a shared responsibility.
