EC's rain confined to coastal belt

Snow on the Barkley Pass on the R58

Mthatha Weather Office

Rainfall overnight was mainly confined to the Eastern Cape coastal belt and adjacent interior.

The Nelson Mandela Bay Metro’s main catchment area in the Langkloof received between 13 mm at Joubertina and a healthy 40 mm at Kareedouw.

The Kouga catchment received a mere 3 mm at Patensie.

The PE Airport measured 17.6 mm and 3rd Avenue dip in Newton Park, 18.8 mm.

Over the interior, temperatures dropped as low as -2 degrees Celsius in places, such as Barkley East and Molteno.

Snow was also reported to have fallen at Barkley East.

Garth Sampson at the PE Branch of the SA Weather Service says conditions are expected to clear gradually from the west later.

He says, however, that there will be plenty of frost overnight on Friday.
