EC ready for 2019 matric exams


The Eastern Cape Education Department said it was all systems go for the National Senior Certificate Exams which commences on Wednesday.

The Department said just over 4 400 candidates will sit for the two papers, Computer Applications Technology and Information Technology.

The Department said that 103 312 learners from 939 public schools, 50 independent centres and 54 designated centres are registered for the 2019 senior certificate exams in the province.

Eastern Cape Education MEC Fundile Gade said after being briefed he was confident of an incident-free 2019 matric exams.

“I wish all our learners throughout the province good luck in their examinations. Also, l am confident that we stand a good chance to exceed the 22 000 bachelors (degree passes) we achieved in the last year’s examinations," he said

Gade further indicated that “last week, the department, together with its stakeholders, signed a pledge to commit to delivering high quality, incident-free and legitimate free examinations.

Marking of examination scripts will take place in 20 marking centres across the Province and the Department has already appointed competent markers. Small subjects/low enrolment subjects will be marked centrally at DBE.

The Department will officially release the Results of candidates on 8 January 2020.
