The Eastern Cape Department of Health said it achieved another COVID-19 milestone with more than two-million doses of the vaccines now having been administered.
The Department said as of 22 September, the province administered 2,016,801 vaccines, and the number of people who received the jab increased to over 1.42 million.
“This milestone means that our campaigns aimed at scaling up the vaccination programme are paying off,” Health MEC, Nomakosazana Meth.
She said at the current rate of vaccination, the Eastern Cape Health Department was confident of achieving at least 2-million “fully vaccinated people by the end of the year.”
“We urge everyone aged 18 years and older to come forward and get the lifesaving jab, especially men because there is vaccine hesitancy from them. We are working hard to ensure that we target more people by taking the vaccine directly to them through our pop-up vaccine sites which are easily accessible,” the MEC said.
The Eastern Cape has more than 1 200 vaccine sites administering around 26 000 jabs a day.
