An Eastern Cape Prosecutor has been charged with contravention of section 54 of the Sexual Offences Act for allegedly failing to report that a minor had been raped and sexually assaulted.
The National Prosecuting Authority says Vicky Rossouw appeared before the Humansdorp Magistrate's Court on Monday
NPA spokesperson Luxolo Tyali says it is alleged that Rossouw knew that the child had been sexually assaulted and raped but did not immediately report the matter to police
Tyali says there was also an alleged offence of incest.
He says the NPA views this case in a very serious light and internal labour relations processes against Russouw have commenced.
"The enrollment of this case against one of our own is a clear indication that if there is enough evidence of a commission of a crime against anyone, the NPA will prosecute without fear, favour or prejudice," Tyali said.
Rossouw is expected back in court on the 28th of November.
