Correctional Centres in the Eastern Cape have the highest number of inmates infected with Covid19.
According to the latest figures from the Department of Correctional Services, there were 850 confirmed cases among inmates and 566 officials.
Department spokesperson, Singabhako Nxumalo, says six inmates and five officials succumbed to the virus with 1044 recoveries in Eastern Cape Correctional Centres.
He said 19 additional cases were confirmed as of Friday.
Meanwhile, Nxumalo said that the total number of confirmed cases in Correctional Centres across the country stood at 3 424, comprising 2002 officials and 1 422 inmates.
He said there were a total of 29 officials and 14 inmates countrywide who had died due to Covid19 complications with 2 096 reported recoveries.
