Eastern Cape Premier Oscar Mabuyane says the province is reaching a point where tough decisions will have to be made regarding funerals, to try to control the spread of covid-19.
In his weekly briefing on Tuesday, the Premier proposed that only immediate family bury their loved ones and 50 mourners no longer attend.
He says funeral parlours have also complained about feeling overwhelmed regarding the coronavirus situation in the province.
The covid-19 death toll in the Eastern Cape currently stands at 564 with 18 379 active cases in the province.
