The Premier of the Eastern Cape, Lubabalo Mabuyane will meet with Health MEC, Sindiswa Gomba, management of the Health Department and the team of specialists assigned by Health Minister, Dr Zweli Mkhize in East London on Saturday, to assist in the implementation of the province’s COVID-19 containment plan and to take stock of work done thus far.
The meeting follows Mabuyane’s oversight visit to Frontier and Glen Grey hospitals during the week.
At the meeting, the Premier will get a detailed report from Gomba and her team about the availability of Personal Protection Equipment in all health facilities, medical supplies, the status of recruitment of nursing and administrative staff, contact tracing, testing and plans to test more people in the province.
As of the 24th April, 9 618 tests were done, of which 480 tested positive for Covid-19 - representing 5% of all tests done.
The Eastern Cape is nearing the 500 mark, as the province’s total number of cases now sits at 480, up from 417 reported on Thursday.
40 new cases were reported from Nelson Mandela Bay Metro (32), Buffalo City Metro (5), Alfred Nzo (1), Chris Hani (1), and OR Tambo (1).
