EC premier to meet mining bosses

Eastern Cape premier, Phumulo Masualle is leading a high-level provincial government delegation to Mthatha on Wednesday morning.

Masualle's meeting will be with representatives of the Chamber of Mines.

The parties will be discussing how mining companies can invest in the Eastern Cape, particularly the former Transkei, which historically, has been a labour-sending area for the country's mines.

Premier's spokesperson, Sizwe Kupelo, said the Bhisho government is of the view that mining companies should not only concentrate the corporate social investment projects in their area of operations, but in the Eastern Cape from where they draw a large labour pool.

"The chamber of mines is here to discuss their corporate social investments projects which are to benefit the ex mine workers but discussing not just the individual workers but how to assist the entire households of each ex mine worker. The province is of the view that those opportunities needs to be brought here to the Eastern Cape which is a labour sending area" he said.
