Eastern Cape Premier, Lubabalo Mabuyane, called on the people of the province to work together to beat the coronavirus pandemic.
He made the remark in a message of condolence after the province registered its first death as a result of covid19.
A 66-year-old woman died in a Port Elizabeth hospital on Thursday.
In his message, Premier Mabuyane said that “we would like to take the opportunity to extend our heartfelt condolences to the family and relatives.”
“We also want to urge everyone to be strong as we forge ahead in confronting this virus head-on,” he added.
Meanwhile, the number of confirmed cases in the Eastern Cape rose to 61, according to the figures released by the National Institute of Communicable Diseases.
The number of infections countrywide also rose to 1 934, with 19 deaths.
