Butterworth police are searching for a suspect who murdered a woman and possibly also raped her before she was killed.
Police spokesperson, Captain Jackson Manatha, said the body of the 31-year-old woman was found in her shack at Skiet Informal Settlement late last night.
He said she had wounds to her upper body.
"The clothes of the deceased on her lower body were removed which led to the suspicion that she was may have been raped. It is believed that the deceased was staying alone," Manatha said.
"The identity of the deceased will be withheld until her family is officially informed of her murder. No one has been arrested yet. Anyone with information is kindly requested to contact Butterworth Police @ 047 401 1100 or Crime Stop 08600 10111."
