EC police make breakthrough in Hankey home invasion

Eastern Cape police have announced a breakthrough in this past weekend's attack on a farm outside Hankey.

Police spokesperson, Captain Gerda Swart, said Hankey Detectives and members of the Provincial Organised Crime Investigation Unit, arrested a 30-year-old man in Hankey on Sunday.

She says he has been linked to the attack following a home invasion on Friday night.

The 44-year-old victim was shot during the attack before being forced to drive to an ATM in town to draw money for the accused.

She managed to drive away while he was drawing an undisclosed amount of cash.

Swart says the suspect will appear in court on Tuesday and will face a string of charges including rape, attempted murder, assault with the intent to do grievous bodily harm, pointing of a firearm, theft and abduction.

She says more charges could be added.
