EC police arrest suspects for stock theft

Three suspects, aged between 18 and 22, have been arrested and 11 stolen sheep recovered during a joint operation between the Uitenhage K9 unit, Kabega Park SAPS, Uitenhage Stock Theft Unit and Local Farmers.

Police spokesperson, captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg, says a recently established stock theft task team received information on Thursday concerning a suspicious vehicle at Elandsriver Road in Kabega Park.

Members of the task team followed up on the information and arrested the three suspects. They also recovered 11 sheep that were on the back of the vehicle.

Due to the sheep being properly marked, the Stock theft unit was able to trace the owner of the livestock.

Van Rensburg says the owner was a local farmer in the Uitenhage area and was not even aware that his sheep had been stolen.

All three suspects will appear in court on Monday on charges of Stock theft.
