An Eastern Cape father has spoken of his family's joy at being reunited with their three year old daughter who was kidnapped and held for ransom in Mozambique.
Siyobonga Msesiwe was joined by the Deputy Minister of Police Maggie Sotyu in King Williams Town where the child was brought from Gauteng and reunited with her family.
The little girl was kidnapped by the family's Mozambican nanny in August and taken to Mozambique from where the kidnappers had demanded a 500-thousand rand ransom.
In a joint operation between the Hawks and Mozambican police, the nanny was arrested in Gauteng while two other people were arrested by Mozambican authorities.
Algoa Fm News spoke to Msesiwe after his child, whom he named Perfect Gift, was safely returned to him and his wife.
"As a family we are so excited to finally get our daughter safe and sound. We really thank God for the great work of the police officers of South Africa. The work they have done to recover our child, without a bruise or any signs of abuse on her body" she said.
Meanwhile, Deputy Police Minister, Maggie Sotyu, said the investigation was carried out be dedicated investigators by the Hawks.
She says they're excited to be reuniting Perfect Gift with her parents.
Deputy Minsiter Sotyu said that the investigation was carried out by four female Hawks members.
"They have made us very proud and to top it all I am very much excited in the fact that they are woman. They have made us very proud"
Replying to a question, Deputy Minister Sotyu also issued the following caution with regards to the employment of foregin nationals.
"We dont have a problem with people hiring foreigners but the challenge is the fact that they hire people without relevant documents. The suspect in this matter did not have the proper documentation to be in this country, thus it was very difficult for police to trace her, but because of the involvement of communities, we managed to get hold of her and her child"she said.
