The Sterkspruit Magistrate’s Court in the Eastern Cape has released on bail three officials attached to the Office of the Clerk of the Court who are charged with corruption.
The NPA’s regional spokesperson Luxolo Tyali says the matter’s been postponed to the 18th of September.
The 41-year-old Thobeka Zuma, 40-year-old Wandile Jokozela and 36-year-old Lazola Mxaka were arrested by the Hawks last Wednesday and were on Monday released on bail of R2 000 each.
They allegedly sold travel permits to undercover police during a sting operation authorised by the Director of Public Prosecutions.
Tyali says the trio is alleged to have been fraudulently issuing and selling travel permits during the COVID-19 national lockdown to people wishing to travel through the border town of Sterkspruit.
They were charging between R150 and R200 for each permit they issued, using the court stamp.
It is expected that more charges will be added at their next court appearance.
