A director in the Alfred Nzo Municipality has been granted bail after appearing in court for allegedly defrauding the Eastern Cape municipality of more millions of rands.
Hawks spokesperson, captain Paul Ramoloko, says the official was arrested last week by the Hawks on a charge of fraud involving R12.5m.
Ramaloko says the official allegedly facilitated the awarding of a tender to install electricity in surrounding villages to a certain company.
Its further alleged that the winning bidder then appointed the director's own company as a sub-contractor for the project.
Ramoloko says the director was granted bail of R100 000 and his case was postponed to July for further investigation.
