A rape and murder suspect, who was tracked down from Centane in the Eastern Cape to Cape Town, will remain behind bars until his next court appearance on April 5, Eastern Cape police said on Tuesday.
The 40-year-old appeared in the Centane Magistrate’s Court earlier this week where the case was postponed until next month.
The accused allegedly raped and murdered 55-year-old Ntombizilungile Mluma on February 4. They had been at the same tavern that evening in Mnyameni Village in the Sigangala Location, Centane.
The attack happened outside the tavern shortly after midnight, as the victim was leaving to go home.
Butterworth police detectives tracked the accused to Cape Town and arrested him in Lower Crossroads, Cape Town, on March 11.
Police spokesperson Captain Jackson Manatha said it was not clear whether he would apply for bail at his next court appearance in April.
