Eastern Cape Local Government and Traditional Affairs MEC, Mlibo Qoboshiyane, says he's noted the arrest and release on bail of Senqu Local Municipality's Municipal Manager, Chief Financial Officer and two other directors.
He says they were arrested by the Hawks following an investigation into allegations of fraud.
Qoboshiyane says they allegedly submitted, motivated and approved an expenditure totaling R137 000 for the Municipal Manager's temporary accommodation at a Lady Grey guesthouse when he did not qualify for such assistance.
He says they were granted bail yesterday, and part of their bail conditions bars them from entering Municipal premises for a period of seven days.
Qoboshiyane says the Senqeu Municipality is expected to call a special Council meeting today, where a resolution is expected to be taken on the appointment of an acting Municipal Manager.
