DA Eastern Cape MPL ,Veliswa Mvenya, resigned from the party on Friday saying she wanted to focus on her family and take time to think about her future in politics.
After 18-years as a DA member, Mvenya said: "this would not be the end" of her political career.
"I need time to think about my future as well but I am definitely not retiring from politics, I will still come back to politics and occupy that space because I think my contribution is still needed in South Africa," Mvenya said.
She said however that the future would not involve her returning to the DA.
"I will come back to politics but I'm definitely not intended to come back to the DA, I think I have done my part and I have had my share in the DA. I am grateful to the DA for the experience that I have gained and the opportunities that the DA has presented to me. I'm now a well-experienced politician because it presented that opportunity," she said.
DA Provincial Leader, Nqaba Bhanga, said Mvenya had resigned with dignity, adding that he was "humbled with the manner she treated the resignation process."
"We appreciate the role she played in the party. As a party, we are moving forward in preparing for 2019 when we run for elections."
He said the DA was looking forward to the new generation of leaders who will lead the party, highlighting the role that youth leaders like MP's Hlomela Bucwa, Yussif Cassim, and Samantha Beynon are playing in the party.
"I hope with that caliber of the youth of the DA we will be able to carry the responsibility of unseating the ANC in the Eastern Cape and South Africa," Bhanga said.
