The Eastern Cape's two metropolitan municipalities say they are ready to deal with any eventuality following this week's severe weather warnings.
Buffalo City Metro says people living in low lying areas and close to rivers and water courses must monitor water levels.
Spokesperson, Keith Ngesi says they should also take preventative action should the need arise and in case of life threatening emergencies, call the Buffalo City Fire Department.
Meanwhile, Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality says a joint operations centre will be established on Friday.
Boom gates have also been erected in the Third Avenue dip which will be utilised should flooding occur.
Widespread and heavy rain is forecast for largest parts of the Eastern Cape over the weekend.
