Eastern Cape Local Government MEC, Fikile Xasa, has met with the mayors of 15 municipalities which received audit disclaimers and adverse audit opinions from the Auditor General, Kimi Makwetu.
Xasa said the meeting in East London on Tuesday was to first establish the reasons behind the poor audit outcomes, then help the municipalities craft solutions.
He says each municipality had been given an opportunity to present their turn-around plans.
MEC Xasa told Algoa FM News that their main goal was to ensure that not a single municipality has disclaimers.
He says some of the issues contributing to poor audit outcomes include non compliance to supply chain rules and regulations, amongst others.
"Poor quality of financial statements that gets presented -three municipalities submitted those financial statements late. We are worried about that in that despite the fact they got a service provider, they still submit a poor quality statement" he said.
