The 30-year-old Eastern Cape man who allegedly burnt his girlfriend with a hot iron on Christmas day last year, will appear in the Mthatha Magistrates Court on Wednesday.
National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson, Luxolo Tyali, identified the suspect as Thozamile Gawula and his victim as 26-year-old law student Mihle Sibembe.
Sibembe was allegedly burnt in the face and on her upper and lower body following an argument at Gawula’s home over a Facebook picture of her with another man.
After the attack, Sibembe was rushed to the Nelson Mandela Academic Hospital, where she was treated for multiple injuries.
Gawula was then arrested on 3 January and later released on R800 bail.
He is facing an charge of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
