The Family Violence Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit at Uitenhage has arrested a 37-year-old Despatch man on 18 counts of rape, sexual assault, defeating the ends of justice and theft.
Uitenhage police spokesperson Lieutenant Gerda Swart said the suspect allegedly offered a 24 year-old woman a lift last Sunday evening.
Instead of dropping her at the taxi rank, he pulled a knife and drove the woman to his house in Despatch.
Lieutenant Swart said the woman was raped repeatedly during the night and was only released the following day.
The incident was reported to the police on Thursday and the suspect was arrested the same evening.
The man is being held in custody and will appear in the Uitenhage Magistrate's court on Monday.
