February 14 (ANA) – A 43-year-old man is set to appear before the Butterworth Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday for allegedly raping a five-year-old girl.
Police spokesperson, Captain Jackson Manatha, said the suspect was arrested by Msobomvu Police on Monday.
It is alleged that he raped the girl at a forest on Saturday, at Marhambeni Location near Zazulwana village in Butterworth.
Manatha said the suspect was supposed to go with the victim to her home, but instead he took her to the forest where he allegedly raped her.
“Both the girl and the suspect were from the mother of the victim who was doing laundry at the river,” said Manatha.
The victim broke her silence to her mother about the alleged rape after her mother arrived at home Manatha added.
