A 67-year-old man was killed in an accident about 10 km outside Port Alfred towards Kenton-On-Sea on Friday morning.
Police spokesperson, Captain Luvuyo Mjekula, identified the victim as Alexandria resident, Des Kraft.
He said when police arrived on scene they found the wrecks of Kraft's bakkie and a mini-bus on the side of the road.
Mjekula said rescuers had to use the "jaws of life" to remove Krafts body from his vehicle while the 40-year-old taxi driver from Mthatha was rushed to hospital for treatment.
"At this stage it not yet clear what the actual cause of the crash was and police are investigating. We can also confirm that the road had to be closed for about three hours as emergency services and law enforcement authorities cleared the scene. It has since been reopened and traffic is flowing smoothly “he said.
He said police are investigating a case of culpable homicide.
