A 23-year-old Eastern Cape man is expected to make his first court appearance on Thursday for allegedly murdering a suspected liquor thief in Willowvale.
Police spokesperson, Captain Jackson Manatha says it is alleged that the deceased, also aged 23, stole liquor from a motor vehicle that was parked at a supermarket on Tuesday afternoon, before fleeing to the town's Informal Settlement.
Manatha says he was chased by community members, and when the alleged thief drew his knife, the suspect who was in the front, allegedly shot him in the upper body.
The victim died instantly.
Manatha says the suspect handed himself and his licensed fire arm to the Willowvale Police.
