A 52-year-old Eastern Cape man has been jailed for life for raping his seven-year-old niece.
Police spokesperson, Captain Jackson Manatha, says the man was jailed in the Tsomo Regional court this week.
He says the man, who was 47 at the time of the attack on the child, was arrested by Butterworth's Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit.
Eastern Cape Provincial Police Commissioner, Lieutenant-General Celiwe Binta, commended the unit's detectives for their thorough investigation.
She says police will ensure that criminals who prey on vulnerable women and children are kept behind bars indefinitely.
