A 21-year-old man is due to appear in court in Willowvale in the Eastern Cape on Friday in connection with the rape and murder of two young sisters.
Police identified the girls as 12-year-old Siyamthanda Koli and her 16-year-old sister, Cordelia.
Their bodies were found early on Tuesday morning after they were last seen leaving a traditional ceremony at Mgojweni Location and Nqadu Village in Willowvale in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
The bodies of the two girls were spotted by a man at about 06:00 on Tuesday 02 December 2015," said police spokesperson Captain Jackson Manatha.
"He saw their bodies in a plantation forest which is about 3km away from the homestead that had a mgidi traditional ceremony. It suspected that the girls were raped and murdered. Their cellphones were also missing.
Manatha said Willowvale detectives worked around the clock and their hard work resulted to an arrest of 21 year old suspect during the day on Tuesday.
"The suspect will be charged with two counts of rape, two counts of murder and two counts of robbery. The suspect is due to appear before the Willowvale Magistrate Court on Friday 04 December 2015," he said.
Butterworth Cluster Commander Brigadier Stanley Sibhidla praised Willowvale detectives for their swift actions which resulted to the arrest of the suspect. He condemned rape and murder of the deceased as these were defenceless young girls.
