Eastern Cape police have welcomed a life sentence that was handed down by the Joubertina Regional Court on Friday in a rape case that occurred in June 2014.
Police spokesperson, Capt. Gerda Swart says the accused, a 46-year-old man, who is related to his 16-year-old victim, was sentenced to life imprisonment.
She says the victim reported the incident to the police in 2017 and the accused was arrested soon afterwards.
The Humansdorp Cluster Commander, Brigadier John Lebok commended the investigating officers from the Humansdorp Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit, as well as the Joubertina Regional Court for the effective sentencing that was handed down.
