Uitenhage police have arrested a man for allegedly shooting 11 cows last week.
Police spokesperson, Sergeant Majola Nkhohli, said on Tuesday that police detectives arrested a 37-year-old man in connection with the incident.
The carcasses of eight of the cows were found on a farm last week.
Three cows survived but one was reportedly euthanized laster.
“A suspect is to appear on Wednesday, 10 May 2017 at the Uitenhage Magistrate's Court on charges of malicious injury to property, contravention of Animals Protection Act and illegally discharging of firearm,” Sergeant Nkholi said.
The shooting of the animals sparked an outcry with Eastern Cape Rural Development and Agrarian Reform MEC, Mlibo Qoboshiyane, met with the owner of the cows, Sivuyile Stokwe, last week.
The MEC said there was no justification for killing the animals.
