Police in Willowvale in the Eastern Cape have arrested a 43-year-old man for the brutal axe murder of his elderly father.
Police spokesperson, Captain Jackson Manatha, says the family tragedy unfolded in the Zinta-kumbeni Location at Bojini village near Willowvale on Tuesday afternoon.
He says the 77-year-old man's daughter, who lives nearby and was washing clothing at a communal tap, heard a scream from her father's hut.
Manatha says the woman rushed over to see what was happening.
He says she rushed to the hut and saw her brother standing in the doorway with an axe covered in blood. When she entered the hut she discovered her father hacked to death.
Manatha says the distraught woman called for help as the suspect fled the scene.
She called members of the community and the police who managed to trace the suspect and arrest him.
He will appear in the Willowvale Magistrates Court on Friday on a charge of murder.
The motive for the killing is not known at this stage.
