A man who was arrested a year ago for a hijacking in Kwanobuhle, Uitenhage, but freed on bail in December, is one of two suspects who have been apprehended for another hijacking.
Police spokesperson, Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg, says a Volkswagen Polo was hijacked in Motherwell on Sunday night and an alert was broadcast on the police radio network.
Members on patrol spotted the vehicle in William Slammert Drive, Bethelsdorp and a chase ensued.
Janse Van Rensburg says the suspects stopped and jumped out of the vehicle before opening fire on the police.
The police managed to arrest both suspects, aged 22 and 23, and seized a firearm.
She says the 22-year-old was released on bail on the 5th of December in another hijacking case.
