A man suspected of having ties to a far-right group is expected to appear in the Hankey Magistrate's Court on Wednesday on charges of alleged possession of illegal weapons.
The 52-year-old Danie Groenewald was arrested by the Hawks on a farm in Thornhill, Port Elizabeth in February.
He made a brief appearance in court and was released on bail of a thousand rand.
The Western Cape police acted on a tip-off which led them to Port Elizabeth.
The organisation who calls themselves Boerelegion says on their official Facebook page that the charges against Groenewald were ridiculous and nothing but a witchhunt.
It also identified Groenewald as the leader of their organisation in the Eastern Cape.
Groenewald is being charged for the possession of illegal firearms and ammunition.
Boerelegion said these weapons were antiques that Groenewald had restored and he was in the process of getting it licenced.
It further stated that the ammunition Groenewald had in his possession was stored as a favour to a friend who does not own a safe.
The organisation asked their supporters to make donations into an FNB account in order to pay for Groenewald's legal fees.
He is being represented by Advocate Carlo Viljoen.
A spokesperson for the Hawks in the Western Cape Captain Philani Nkwalase said the scope of their investigation was not to probe the existence of Boerelegioen, as citizens had the right to form organisations.
