Three law enforcement officers at the King Sabata Dalinyebo Municipality in the Eastern Cape appeared in court on Friday on charges of fraud, forgery, and uttering.
Hawks Eastern Cape spokesperson, Captain Yolisa Mgolodela, says the trio, Law Enforcement Officers, Phumla Jezile and Nondyebo Mzamo and Traffic Officer, Tabisa Jezile, allegedly submitted fraudulent matric certificates when applying for higher positions.
She said when the KSD Municipality conducted a skills audit, discrepancies were picked up when the employees were requested to submit their qualifications.
Mgolodela says the matter was reported to Mthatha Serious Commercial Crime Investigation team of the Hawks and the three were summoned to appear in the Mthatha Specialised Commercial Crimes Court.
She said they were released on warning and the matter was postponed to 4 July.
