The Eastern Cape Department of Health has rejected as fake news a video doing the rounds on social media claiming that a hospital with a leaking roof was the Dora Nginza Hospital in Gqeberha.
In a statement on Wednesday, the department denied that the video was of the Eastern Cape hospital.
"The blanket on the floor has Western Cape branding," said spokesperson, Sizwe Kupelo.
"Such fake news can cause reputational damage and should not be left unchallenged," he said.
The Department said it is concerned that some malicious people were hellbent on trying to tarnish the good name of the hospital, and by extension, the Eastern Cape Department of Health.
He said the provincial Health Department remains committed to delivering quality health and care services to the people who rely on the public sector for their health needs.
