The Eastern Cape Gambling and Betting Board will kick-start a month long campaign to promote responsible gambling and awareness of the multi-billion rand industry in Cradock on Tuesday.
CEO Mabutho Zwane says while the Board has done well in regulating the industry and collecting taxes from licencees, it needs to beef up its focus on responsible gambling.
Zwane says they've targeted Cradock because there is a high number of illegal gambling activities in the area.
He encouraged people to gamble in legal institutions where they have access to protection.
The last leg of the campaign will be held in East London at the end of the month.
Gambling taxes collected from the industry in the Eastern Cape jumped from R90m in 2010/11 to R99m in 2011/12 in relation to gross gaming revenue exceeding R1.2b.
