The Task team investigating the escape of eight awaiting trial prisoners at Mount Ayliff in the Eastern Cape has arrested two more escapees near Pietermaritzburg.
Brigadier Tembinkosi Kinana says they were arrested early on Thursday morning, bringing to seven the number of prisoners recaptured since their escape on Saturday night the 22nd of August.
He says the movements of 21-year-old Lizwi Daweti and 36-year-old John Ndou were monitored and traced and they were subsequently found near Pietermaritzburg, meaning there is now only one escapee still at large.
The arrested suspects will be charged with escaping from lawful custody and malicious damage to property for the damage they caused to their cell when escaping.
They are expected to appear in the Mount Ayliff Magistrate’s Court soon.
Sindiso Ndzelu, Mfundiso Nogwanya, Abongile Mpandana, Andile Loni and Nathi Mavela were re-arrested in several villages across the Alfred Nzo District Municipality between Sunday and Tuesday.
