Eastern Cape Education MEC, Fundile Gade, has expressed his condolences to the family of Themba Kojana, the Head of Department who has died.
In a statement on Thursday, Gade said Kojana’s passing was confirmed by his family in the early hours of Thursday morning after he was admitted to hospital on Wednesday evening.
“We are literally shattered as the sector and Eastern Cape,” MEC Gade.
The exact cause of Kojana’s death was not revealed, but Gade said it came at a time that the Department of Education in the Eastern Cape had put its hope in his leadership for the improvement of education for all.
“During his tenure, he managed to lead a team of dedicated officials who managed to put the education sector in the Province in a better position in terms of education outcomes. The Department has lost a calibre of a leader who served the interest of all,” the MEC said.
He said details on the funeral arrangements will be communicated shortly.
